Just in time for Valentine's Day, Jonesborough Repertory Theatre will take audiences on a romantic journey from young infatuation to the touching and funny complexities of commitment, marriage and enduring love when it presents Rodgers & Hammerstein's "A Grand Night for Singing."
Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m., Fridays; 2 and 7:30 p.m., Saturdays; and 2 p.m., Sundays, Feb. 1-17 at the theater. Interpretation for the deaf will be provided at the Feb. 3 show.
The Tony-nominated Broadway musical features more than 30 of Rodgers and Hammerstein's greatest hits from their musicals "Carousel," "The King and I," "South Pacific," "The Sound of Music," "Cinderella" and "Oklahoma!"
The cast includes Josh Baldwin, Jeff McNabb, Ben Bolt, David Hutton, Jon Luttrell, Kris Carlson, Lucas Schmidt, Susan McNabb, Sharon Squibb, Janette Gaines, Shelley Bolt, Jill Janaitis, Jennifer Schmidt, Sarah Sanders, Nancy Peak, Pam Williams, Shelyne Ponder, Jennifer Eaves, Bob Browning, Heather Allen and Lexi Turner.
Tickets are $14 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors.
Couples looking to amp up the romance can take advantage of a special Valentine package for two that includes a four-course meal at The Dining Room or Bomba's Fresh Italian restaurant in historic Jonesborough and VIP reserved seating at the Feb. 8, 9, 15 or 16 performance of "A Grand Night for Singing."
"We are so excited to partner with Bomba's Fresh Italian and The Dining Room for this special package," said JRT Artistic Director Jennifer Schmidt, who is also directing "A Grand Night for Singing." "It gives our theatre patrons a way to make seeing 'A Grand Night for Singing' even more special. And what a unique Valentine's surprise!"
Restaurant seating will take place from 5:30 to 6 p.m. at the restaurant of the couple's choosing, followed by VIP treatment at the 7:30 p.m. JRT performance.
Cost is $70 per couple, and reservations are required.
A deluxe package is available for $120 and includes a half-dozen roses and box of chocolates from Earth & Sky Confectioners in addition to dinner and the show.
