The world's fastest and most elite motocross racers are set to descend upon Muddy Creek Raceway for the first time ever this summer, as the most prestigious motocross championship on the planet makes its debut in Blountville, TN in June. Not only will the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, draw the top names in the sport, but it will also bring thousands of racing fans into the already-saturated motorsports community.
The Tennessee National, Round 3 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, will take place Saturday, June 1. Held at the highly regarded Muddy Creek Raceway, a top destination for regional motocross enthusiasts since the 1970s, this will mark the series' return to the Southeast region of the U.S. for the first time in nearly two decades.
"Northeast Tennessee is proud to have another world class racing event come to our area. I have been to Muddy Creek Raceway and experienced a motocross race and couldn't be more excited," said Sullivan County Mayor Steve Godsey. "We welcome the racers and fans to the area for this great event."
Spectators, motocross industry personnel and the racers themselves will fill local hotels and restaurants in anticipation for the weekend's event at Muddy Creek Raceway. With hundreds of race rigs, vans and other vehicles used to transport racing equipment, area gas stations will also see a significant rise in activity. Traditionally arriving on Thursday and staying until Sunday, the event truly lasts all weekend for everyone involved.
"We are very excited to have The Tennessee National coming to Muddy Creek Raceway in 2013," said Matt Bolas, Executive Director of the Bristol Tn/Va Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Northeast Tennessee is known worldwide for hosting premier motorsports events like those held at Bristol Motor Speedway and Bristol Dragway. With the addition of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship coming to our region this summer, The Tennessee National will be a huge draw for race enthusiasts and bring a level of excitement to visitors, locals, and motocross fans."
"We have been producing championship events at Muddy Creek Raceway since the late 1970s and this is a great accomplishment to bring a pro national to town," says Victory Sports president Sam Gammon. "Our riders and fans are really excited about finally being rewarded with a pro national in the Southeast."
The Round 3 of the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship kicks off on the morning of Saturday, June 1, 2013 with practice and qualifying beginning at 8:30 a.m. Opening ceremonies and final motos begin at 1:00 p.m.
