The Appalachian Fair will celebrate its 86th year with a full week of entertainment, food and fun for the family, beginning Aug. 20 and continuing daily through Aug. 25.
Historically, the fair’s Main Stage lineup has always included some of country music’s fastest rising stars, and this year proves to be no exception.
But in addition to the country talent, this year’s lineup also features a popular Contemporary Christian band as well as a well-known rock artist.
Concerts begin at 8 p.m., nightly. Grandstand seating is included in fair admission; reserved seating is an additional $8 per show.
Jake Owen, who received the Academy of Country Music’s Top Male Vocalist award in 2009 and scored his second No. 1 Billboard single earlier this year with “Alone With You,” kicks things off Aug. 20, followed by Uncle Kracker, best known for his hits “Smile,” “Follow Me” and “Drift Away” on Aug. 21; Contemporary Christian band Tenth Avenue North on Aug. 22; Lauren Alaina, the runner-up on the 10th season of “American Idol,” on Aug. 23; country newcomer Hunter Hayes, who has toured with Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts, on Aug. 24; and well-known bluegrass duo Daily and Vincent on Aug. 25.
Reserved seat tickets for the Main Stage concerts, if available, can be purchased at the fairgrounds’ ticket office or by calling (423) 477-1420.
In addition to the Main Stage lineup, the Museum Stage will host the Fairest of the Fair Pageant at 8 p.m., Aug. 20; the Little Miss Pageant at 6 p.m., Aug. 21; Jessica Nixon at 7 p.m., Aug. 22; RetroVille at 8:30 p.m., Aug. 22; the Youth Talent Contest at 7 p.m., Aug. 23; Savannah Jack at 7 and 8 p.m., Aug. 24; and Taylor Cochran at 7 p.m., Aug. 25.
The Appalachian Arena has a full slate of fast-paced action on tap as well. Monster Truck All Stars with Jim Kohler, two-time Jam World Champion, kicks things off with two appearances at 7 p.m., Aug. 20 and 21. Free Style Motorcross with Fireback Flip will entertain audiences at 7 p.m., Aug. 22 and 23, followed by the wildly popular Slammers and Bangers Demolition Derby at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 24 and 25.
Fair admission is $8 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-11; children 5 and under are admitted free with a paying adult. Parking is $3 per car.
