Auditions to be held soon for “Liberty!”
ELIZABETHTON — For those who would like to act in a large production, for those who would like to perform in Tennessee’s official outdoor drama, auditions are just two weeks away.
Auditions for “Liberty: The Saga of Sycamore Shoals” will be held at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. or Saturday, March 4, at 5 p.m. Rehearsals will be held in the Visitors Center.
Liberty! tells the stories of the Watauga Settlement during the late 18th century, when the first part of what is now Tennessee were being settled.
The Watauga Association, the Transylvania Purchase, the Cherokee Siege of Fort Watauga, and the Muster of the Overmountain Men are the focus of the play and the primary historic events of the 1770-1780 era. These stories are full of adventure and make for an entertaining and informative play.
It also provides roles for a large and varied cast that has always been dedicated to keeping the earliest history of Tennessee alive.
There will be a new director, Tony DeVault, and assistant director, C. Keith Young. Each man has a great deal of experience in theater and production.
Performances will be held in the Fort Watauga Amphitheater during the last three weekends in July. Dates for 2017, the 39th season of the outdoor drama, are Thursdays through Saturdays, July 13-15, 20-22, and 27-29. Each performance will begin at 7:30 p.m.
