This week, I’d like to dedicate my column to my fabulous husband Brock.
You see, Saturday marks a huge milestone in his life—he turns 30. Happy birthday!!!
In honor of his bday, we’ll be throwing a fabulous party at our house. And in the party planning spirit, I thought I’d share my party supply purchasing tips.
Balloons/ décor: If I’m planning a party, there’s one place I always go first—Balloon-A-Tics (formerly A Perfect Party). I don’t know what they put in their balloons, but the stay up for days and days. The great thing is that you can go get your decorations and have the whole place done way before the party. They’ve also got other party supplies if you’re interested in something besides balloons. Call Balloon-A-Tics at 926-3651. If you know what you want, just call a day in advance and they’ll have everything ready.
Cake: I really like Another Touch Bakery in Jonesborough. Their buttercream icing is fantastic—especially if you get it on some of their cupcakes. Call 753-0553 for more info or visit www.anothertouchbakery.com. You can’t order online, but you can check out some of their previous work.
I’ve also had some really great cakes from Unique Cake in Bristol. The almond cake is beyond good and they do some really beautiful work. Unique Cake books up really fast, though, so you’ll have to give plenty of notice. Call 764-2253 for more info.
Food: I’m actually cooking everything for this bday party. But, I think bbq is really the way to go if you’re catering in for a large group. Try Pratt’s in Kingsport (246-5749) or my new favorite Phil’s Dream Pit in Gray/ Kingsport area (349-6437).
Beer: It really wouldn’t be a GTG column without mentioning beer, would it? If you’re looking for a keg, we used to go to Kmart in Johnson City. They had kegs on hand (domestics) and were a lot cheaper than other places. I recently heard, however, that they stopped carrying kegs. So, you might want to call ahead just in case. If you’re looking for something more in the specialty vein, try Libation Station in Boones Creek. They’ve got a really great selection of microbrews in bottles, as well as a nice keg selection. We purchased a keg of Sam Adams Boston Ale for this party.
Know any other great places for party supplies? Leave me a comment here or e-mail me at thegotogal@hotmail.com. Once again, don’t forget to use a good subject. I delete all e-mails without subjects or with non-specific subjects thanks to tons of SPAM.
In the spirit of parties, I’d also like to wish all happiness to my friend Jessica who is getting married Saturday. Congrats!

There are tons of event sources in the area! For cakes-
Margi Chambers in Elizabethton rocks http://mycakeart.com
Hannah Meade over in Kingsport http://www.sweetrevengecakery.com
And don't forget about the wonderful venues in the area if you're considering hosting an off-site gathering like the Charles in Johnson City, TN http://www.thecharlesjc.com.
Of course, there are also full service vendors as well like the General Morgan Inn located in Greeneville, TN http://www.generalmorganinn.com and Main Street Catering in Jonesborough, TN http://mainstreetcatering.net, who will handle menu planning, decor, and has an available venue.
Great article..and I'm so glad to see you mentioning event vendors..we all do more than weddings!
