I think it’s becoming a theme with me… I’m always about two days behind where I’d like to be.
This week, I sort of have an excuse. Besides the big 30th b-day bash on Saturday, I worked five nights at the hospital. I have to give props to all of you night shifters out there because I stink at working nights. Seriously, my days have been off ever since.
Anyway, when I started writing this column, I realized I had absolutely no clue what was going on this weekend around the region. In fact, I barely realized it was the weekend until about 30 minutes ago. Oops!
Never fear! I did a little digging and came up with some options for your weekend activities.
Music on the Square. I love checking out Music on the Square in Jonesborough on Friday nights in the summer. This week’s performer is Ivy Road. Show starts at 7 p.m. in front of the courthouse downtown. For a full schedule of events and more info on Ivy Road, visit www.musiconthesquare.com.
Twilight Alive. This week’s Twilight Alive performance features the Mustangs at 7 p.m. tonight. Be sure to bring a chair and hang out downtown Kingsport for the evening.
One Act Festival. Also this weekend in Kingsport is the Kingsport Theatre Guild One Act Festival. If you’ve never been to a festival like this, it’s tons of fun. You can get tickets for unlimited attendance through the entire weekend by calling 392-8427 or visiting www.kingsporttheatre.org. Tickets are also available at the door and cost $14 for adults or $12 for students/ seniors.
Drag Racing. If you’re hanging out in Bristol this weekend the Thunder Valley Nationals will be taking over the dragway. Visit www.bristoldragway.com for more info.
Rhododendron Festival. I have to confess, I’ve never been up to Roan Mountain for the Rhododendron Festival, but I hear it’s a great time. Crafts, food and music will be showcased Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the amphitheater area. Visit www.roanmountain.com for all the details.
Got any other great events this weekend? Leave a comment here or e-mail me at thegotogal@hotmail.com. I always love your feedback, so keep it coming!
