I’ve always been a dog lover.
Then a couple of weekends ago we headed down to Asheville for Belle Chere and checked out a really cool event for doggies called dock jumping. If you've never seen this sport before, I'll give you a summary. Basically, the dog plays fetch into a big pool of water and the longest jump in wins.
Let me tell you, the dogs loved it. And ever since, I’ve had dogs on the brain.
In light of my new preoccupation with all things K9, I thought I’d give you a couple events coming up just for dog lovers.
First, you too can catch the dock jumping pups of the “Ultimate Air Dogs” at the Food City Family Race Night. This event takes place on Thursday, August 19 in downtown Bristol. Events start at 1 p.m. No word on the Air Dogs Web site (www.ultimateairdogs.net) as to when the dogs will be competing. But, from what I understand, they’ll be set up right downtown. Your dog can also participate in this event. No pre-registration, but visit the Ultimate Air Dogs for more info.
Next (well, really first in terms of timing), be sure to come out to the Kingsport Town Center on August 14 from 1 to 5 p.m. for the “Wash-n-Wag.” This event is a fundraiser for the Sullivan County Humane Society. Since both my dogs are rescues, this holds a special place in my heart.
Bring your dogs out to the mall and get a dog wash. Cost is $7 for pets up to 100 lbs and $12 for dogs more than 100 lbs. Free treats for the dogs and education for owners will also be provided.
Check out www.kingsporttowncenter.com and click on “events” for more info.
Got any more great animal events? Leave a comment here or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Just another friendly reminder: please put a real subject in your e-mail. (And no, “hello” is not a real subject.) Since I get so much junk mail and since I recently lost my Mac to a big crash, I won’t be opening anything that looks the least bit off. Thanks!
