It’s been another crazy week in GTG land.
I started back to school on Monday, got my new computer (yay!) on Wednesday and got stranded by my “fixed” car on Saturday. So, you can see I’ve been a bit busy.
In between all that I managed to hang out at Sonny’s Marina and Café for a “Retroville” concert, visit Music on the Square for my friend Jessica Nixon’s set and I’m about to head over to Café Lola for the monthly wine tasting. No excuses for not doing anything fun!
If you’re looking for something to do this week, there’s no shortage. Obviously all you NASCAR fans are looking forward to a week at the races. You’ve got the Food City Family Race Night in downtown Bristol and then a full weekend of racing at Bristol Motor Speedway. For all the info on those events, check out www.bristolmotorspeedway.com.
For those of us who know nothing about cars, however, there are still plenty of other options. For example, Kingsport still has its Twilight Alive and Bluegrass on Broad concert series for a few more weeks. This week you can check out the Gary Hensley Band and Annie Robinette Band on Thursday, as well as Tennessee Skyline on Thursday. Next week the Return finishes up the Twilight Alive Series, followed by the ETSU Bluegrass Band for Bluegrass on Broad Friday night. Visit www.visitkingsport.com/downtown/concertseries.html for more info
Jonesborough’s Music on the Square is also still in full force with James Leva with Riley Baugus and Danny Knicely on Friday at 7 p.m. I’m hoping this week the gnats will be gone, but bring some bug spray or something, just in case.
And, for that last bit of summer fun, the Drive-Ins in Elizabethton and Bristol are still offering up movies. Check out www.statelinedrivein.com or www.twincitydriveintheatre.com for show times and info.
What other events would you like to see me highlight? Visit comment here or e-mail me at thegotogal@hotmail.com and let me know.
Don’t forget also that the Brewgrass Festival is coming up on September 18 in Asheville. I’ve heard that tickets are going for pretty high prices on eBay and other classified sites, so if you’ve got extra you might want to try and sell now!
