So it has been a while, but for anyone who has paid attention to my prior posts you may know that they are about the lack of professionalism and closeness of local bands. I believe the very state of this forum speaks volumes in my defense. We no longer care enough about each other to acknowledge the existence of one another. Congratulations, it seems the buzz community has become a 15 year marriage with one another. You know, far enough into the relationship that the spark of interest is gone, we sit on the couch watching reruns of Mash on tv land, eating luke warm microwaved lasagna without ever speaking a word to each other. Any earlier in the marriage and we may still have feelings for the other person, any further into the relationship and we may count on each other for something.
The idea that everyone is "too busy" with their lives or 'projects' is pure B.S. too, I know damn good and well you are checking up on facebook at least three times an hour. So what is it? Are you too good to write about a live show, post new pictures of your band, support what's left of out local music scene? For Christ's Sake, the last post was a guy advertising as a DJ / Karaoke (no hate, really reasonably priced). I'm not here to complain about our downfalls as musicians, but rather to show my distaste. Much like a parent that finds out their child is gay. I don't love you any less, I just wish things were different. So I will leave you with this thought. F*** You. You had a perfect opportunity to make something great. All of you... All of us. The tools were handed to us, with nothing asked in return. We could have all formed a fraternal brotherhood of sorts and banded together to make one hell of a music scene, but we would rather sit in our garages and talk crap about what we get paid. I'm done. From now on, you are all a bunch of nameless assholes that are pushing in on my potential profits. I will only go and watch a show to improve my own performance and even then the shows without a cover will take precedence. I will not help support a culture that is hell bent on destroying itself because I no longer appreciate the Irony.

I will have to say, I will still go pay for a show when i go out to see one, i agree with Temple. This forum is a shell of its former self, and so is the music scene. We could get it back, but bands do need to get back into helping one another, rather than bashing one another. I will have to say though, when the tri-cities music scene was at one of its peaks, heavy metal/hard rock bands were thriving in most every venue that allowed them. Rafters drew great crowds when major label acts came through, with local talent opening. The Casbah.....well, we all know about that places former greatness. Even smaller venues like hideaway, halo, poor richard's, chucky's trading post (now numan's,) etc.. were pulling in good crowds. Now there are very few venue's that cater to heavy metal, and believe me, in this economy there are alot of angry people out there. Just WATCHING a heavy metal show is a great way to purge that anger, even if there isnt a mosh pit. Asheville has a growing metal scene, with TONS of talent. Knoxville/Maryville area has alot of good metal bands. Both scenes have local talent opening up for major label artists, and people are starting to take notice and coming out to see metal. All ages shows, 18+ up shows, and even 21+ shows are drawing decent crowds. Maybe if more venues would cater to more metal bands, the crowds would start coming out again. Great to see One 30 Edge doing a reunion show, and i hope they pack the house at Capone's, but even as active as i am on the internet, i did not hear about this show until yesterday. It is also GREAT to see OMEGA TRIBE coming back, but guess where their first show back is....ASHEVILLE! Both bands are regional metal powerhouses from back when our scene last thrived and there are ALOT of good metal bands out there, that just have limited venues that cater to them here. Im guessing if the metal bands can band together as much as possible, book shows, promote shows, and tear the house down at each show, this scene can be rebuilt. And im not just saying metal bands should get preference, but its obvious that people are getting tired of seeing the same type of bands at most every venue. Its time for local venues AND PROMOTERS to open their doors to metal. I know that metal is aggressive, and that metal is angry, and that metal is "devil music" as some in this region would call it, but there is a market for it in this region, probably more so than people think.
I still say that the smoking law that was passed several years ago is partly responsible for the decayed music scene. If you are 18 and can buy smokes, you should be able to smoke in a venue with 18+ shows. I understand the health part of it, but the majority of people who go to these venues do actually smoke, and rather than go pay money to sit in a place for a few minutes at a time in order to go outside to smoke, (because drinking does make you smoke more,) people are opting to just flat out not support our music scene. I think that law should be amended to make bars/nightlife type venues exempt from the age restriction for smokers inside the venue, considering the majority of patrons do smoke.
But yet, i digress. There are probably only a handful of people that will read this. Maybe i MIGHT get a response from the poster. But after coming to this site to find info on One 30 Edge returning, and find NOTHING except a DJ promoting anything, i felt i had to throw my two cents in on the matter. No matter what style of music, WE DO NEED TO SUPPORT EACH OTHER IN THIS REGIONAL SCENE.

Unfortunately nothing lasts forever, people move on, change careers, move outta the area. I've seen a huge decline in facebook as well as other internet social sites. Between the economic recession and ever increasing law enforcement people are not willing to leave there homes to have a beer and watch a band. plus with the evolution of the drug problem in East Tennessee you find more and more people spending their money on drugs as well. Sad to say that 20 sack of crack has become a huge problem and a crutch for a lot of people.
