Calling all creators: Applications open for Tiny Art Throwdown, body painting demonstration at Little Chicago festival
For two days in August, our region’s creativity and talent will be showcased for all to see. Create Appalachia is partnering with the Johnson City Downtown Merchants Association to offer a variety of featured arts events and activities at the Little Chicago Festival. There will be opportunities for those who want to participate and also for those who simply want to observe and enjoy.
Tiny Art Throwdown
At the third annual Tiny Art Throwdown, competitors will create mini-installations that will transform mundane aspects of the downtown landscape into imaginative art pieces. Drainpipes, grates, and sidewalk cracks will come alive with work that demonstrates the breadth of artistic talent and imagination in the Tri-Cities. Judges will select the best works, and cash and prize packages sponsored by downtown merchants will be given away from the Little Chicago stages. Artists have begun signing up, but there is plenty of room for more competitors. Entry forms are available at Eventbrite.com (search Tiny Art Throwdown), or contact Cher Cornett at [email protected] for a pdf.
A Body Painting demonstration and runway show adds a unique and colorful arts experience to this festival where the human body is the canvas. Cheryl Ann Lipstreau from Skin Wars, Season Two; Tiffany Beckler from Skin Wars, Season Three; and five times world champions Madelyn Greco and Scott Fray will all be painting right here in Johnson city with our local body painters, including Johnson City’s own Ren Allen, the current UV body painting champion for North America! Painting will be taking place all day on Saturday at Holiday’s. Check the Little Chicago Downtown Music & Arts Festival website for information on photo passes and behind-the-scenes-tickets, or contact Ren Allen at [email protected] A runway walk will be out on the street at 8:00 PM. Models and artists will be walking around afterwards for photo ops at sponsors businesses!
