Scythian to kick off new concert series
By staff report

On November 6, 2009 Scythian, a crowd favorite at the 2008 & 2009 Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, will return to Historic Downtown Bristol, VA/TN. Tickets for the show are on sale now at thebristoltrainstation.org or by calling 423-383-2901. Tickets are $20 in advance and $20 at the door. This is an all age’s show and promises to have people talking about it for a long time. Doors will open at 7:30 with the concert set to start at 8:00 p.m.

"Scythian was a crowd favorite in 2008 and 2009 at the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion. Their energy and crowd participation is something to behold. They were in the top five merchandise sellers at our festival. Their show is not to be missed," said Leah Ross, Executive Director, Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion.

Take a pair of classically trained dueling fiddlers, toss in a rhythm guitar and the occasional funky accordion, then power it with the driving rhythm of a jazz percussionist, and you've got the ingredients for a show you won't soon forget. Their high-energy, adrenaline-peddling, interactive brand of music has one goal in mind; to get people on their feet and dancing. Their repertoire ranges from traditional and contemporary Celtic and folk music to the alluring and dramatic strains of Gypsy and Eastern European tunes, and then crosses back over the border to pick up some good old-fashioned bluegrass licks.

“Last year was our first Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion (BRRR) and we were blown away by this unique festival setting. After our second (BRRR) this year, we can honestly say that this is one of our favorite festivals in the country. The whole vibe is totally unique with the indoor and outdoor stages and the great historic feel. The killer lineup had us running around from stage to stage, to the point where we forget we are actually performing. The warm reception of the regions people is in keeping with the age old adage "southern hospitality". You know a festival is great when you turn around to see the Executive Director clogging behind you and the volunteers dancing at their posts. In just over a year Bristol has gone from a vague spot on a map to one of our favorite stops and we're very excited about coming back and playing the train station - a unique setting that will promise to make for a dynamite show. Hope ya'll can make it out and kick up some dust with us,” said Scythian’s Dan Fedoryka.

In July of 2008 Scythian performed in Sydney Australia for the Pope at World Youth Day. Their trip was highlighted by their Saturday night show where they closed out the night on the main stage for 250,000 people from nations all over the world at Randwick Racecourse. Within a few songs Scythian had people jumping fences to form massive conga lines and kicking up dust doing leg kicks.

“Scythian is one of the hardest working bands touring today, playing many of the country’s largest festivals, but that’s not all they do. Last year they received an exclusive invitation to perform for President Bush and Ireland’s Prime Minister, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern at the White House St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon. I am so very excited to have them back in Bristol, kicking off what we hope to be a very long run of live shows at the Downtown Bristol Train Station, including a blow out New Year’s Eve show. Much like most musicians I deal with, the members of Scythian, along with their entire road crew are some of the most thoughtful and sincere people touring the country today, and I feel very fortunate to know them… so everyone come out, meet the band…talk to them and support their music, as well as live music all throughout downtown Bristol,” said Eric Blevins of Broken Strings Productions.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at: thebristoltrainstation.org or by calling (423) 383-2901.
