Take much-needed break with night at the local theater
By Christan M. Thomas

Something about a couple weeks full of kinetics, medicinal chemistry and pharmacology puts me in the mood for something completely different — a nice night at the theatre!

So, this week I’m going to get directly to the point of my column. If you — like me — are also in the mood for a little theater break, here are some options coming up in the next few weeks.

• “Deathtrap” at Blue Moon Dinner Theatre — According to the theater’s Web site, www.bluemoondinnertheatre.com, this is the last weekend for “Deathtrap” at the Johnson City venue.

Shows are at 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, with a meal at 6 p.m. There’s also a special “soup and sandwich” show on Thursday, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the show at 8 p.m. You can buy tickets online or call 423-232-1350 for more info. Blue Moon Dinner Theatre is located at 215 E. Main St. in downtown Johnson City.

Here’s a little blurb about the show directly from Blue Moon’s Web site: “Two-thirds thriller and one-third a devilishly clever comedy … this classic thriller deals with the devious mind of a writer of thrillers whose recent offerings have been flops, and the drastic measures he takes to improve his fortunes. The scheme begins with his offer to collaborate on a student’s potential Broadway hit.”

• “A Piece of My Heart” at ETSU — This play is scheduled to open next Wednesday, Nov. 11, just in time for Veterans Day. According to the press release/playwright’s Web site, “A Piece of My Heart” presents “the inspiring true stories of six courageous women sent to Vietnam, and their heart-wrenching struggle to make sense of a war that irrevocably changed them, and a nation that shunned them.”

The show runs Wednesday through Sunday, Nov. 11-15. Pre-show entertainment begins at 7 p.m.. through Saturday and at 1:30 p.m on Sunday.

“A Piece of My Heart” begins at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Performances are in the Bud Frank Theatre in Gilbreath Hall.

Admission is $15 for adults, $7 for students and free for U.S. military veterans.

For more info, call the ETSU Division of Theatre and Dance at 423-439-7576 or 423-439-6511.
