Arts4Kids Program to host workshops for youth

KINGSPORT — The Arts Council of Greater Kingsport’s Arts4Kids Program will host youth workshops for ages 6-12. with local potter and woodworker Michael Ripper at the Kingsport Christmas Connection, Kingsport Civic Auditorium, Nov. 7 at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

This year’s arts and crafts show will be at the Civic Auditorium.

Ripper will help children create and decorate traditional wooden yo-yos. Participants will have the opportunity to work with steel stamps, wood burning tools, all natural stains and other surface treatments. Ripper recently moved to downtown Kingsport from Avery County, N.C. He has bachelor’s degrees in wood design and ceramics from East Carolina University.

Workshops are free for club and outreach members. The cost for non-members is $5. Memberships will be available at the door. Arts4Kids Club is an introductory arts program for children ages 6-12. Registration is $20 for the school-year program or $5 per workshop.
