Fun Fest concerts feature Huey Lewis and the News, Rick Springfield, Jeremy Camp

Huey-LewisKINGSPORT — Fans of rock ’n’ roll and contemporary Christian music will see a full slate of award-winning performers during this year’s Fun Fest Sunset Concert Series, including headliners Huey Lewis and the News, Jeremy Camp and Rick Springfield.

The contemporary Christian concert will kick off the series on Thursday, July 20. Christian rock artist and pastor Zach Williams will open the show by performing songs from his debut album “Chain Breaker,” including his hit single of the same name.

Christian pop-rock group Tenth Avenue North will follow with songs from its latest album, “Followers.” Since its major-label debut in 2008, the band has released a number of hit songs, including “What You Want,” “Love Is Here,” “Hold My Heart” and “By Your Side,” which won a Dove Award for song of the year.

Christian rocker Jeremy Camp will headline the Thursday night show. With nine albums, five of which are certified as RIAA Gold and one as RIAA Platinum, Camp has produced 37 No. 1 hits, including “I Still Believe,” “Walk by Faith,” “Let It Fade” and his most recent hit, “Christ In Me.”

The Thursday night concert is presented by Honda Kingsport.

NightrangerThe Friday night concert will open with the popular classic rock band Night Ranger. Best known for its hit power ballad “Sister Christian,” the band’s first five albums have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.

Rick-SpringfieldHeadlining the concert is Grammy Award-winning songwriter, musician, actor and best-selling author Rick Springfield. Over the past three decades, Springfield has worn many hats as an entertainer and performer. He has sold 25 million albums and scored 17 U.S. Top 40 hits, including “Jessie’s Girl,” “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” “An Affair of the Heart,” “I’ve Done Everything for You,” “Love Somebody” and “Human Touch.” As an actor he most recently starred opposite Meryl Streep in the feature film “Ricki and the Flash,” gave a chameleonic performance as the creepy Dr. Pitlor in HBO’s prestige drama “True Detective” and is earning great reviews for his portrayal of Lucifer this season on the CW hit “Supernatural.”

The Friday night concert is presented by Appalachian Power and Domtar.

BareNakedLadies-jpegFun Fest will conclude with the Saturday night concert on July 22. The show will open with Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies. The group broke through in the U.S. in the late ’90s with its hit songs “One Week” and “It’s All Been Done.” The band is also well-known for performing the theme song to the popular TV show “The Big Bang Theory.”

The festival will close with Saturday night’s headliner, Huey Lewis and the News. This Grammy-winning group is known for several hits, including “If This Is It,” “Do You Believe In Love,” “Heart of Rock & Roll” and “Stuck With You.” The group also wrote and performed “The Power of Love” and “Back in Time” for the popular film “Back to the Future.”

Eastman is the presenting sponsor for the Saturday night concert. Additional series sponsors include Eastman Credit Union and Visit Kingsport.

The concert series will be held in J. Fred Johnson Stadium. Those who want the VIP experience can purchase a Cintas Friends of Festus reserved seating package, which are priced from $50-$70 per seat. The package includes a reserved parking area close to the stadium and a $15 Fun Fest merchandise gift certificate.

A limited number of Friends of Festus packages will be available beginning May 1 at 10 a.m. They can be purchased by visiting the Fun Fest office at 400 Clinchfield St. or by calling (423) 392-8836.

Online general admission tickets can be purchased beginning April 24 at 10 a.m. at Single-night tickets for Thursday and Friday nights can be purchased for $10 each, and Saturday night tickets will be $15. These prices will be offered through May 1.

From May 1 through July 14, ticket prices will increase $5 each to $15 and $20 respectively. For the week of Fun Fest, from July 14 through 22, ticket prices will increase to $20 and $25.

Tickets will be available for purchase at the Fun Fest Store, located at 400 Clinchfield St., Suite 100, beginning June 23 at 9 a.m.
