Theatre Bristol Announces 2018 Season!

Theatre Bristol’s 2018 season opens with River’s Way Does Shakespeare on February 17, continues in March with Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, then Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in June at the Paramount, Summer Camp and Tartuffe in July by the Youth Service Board. For the fall, we present Pinocchio in August, Blithe Spirit in October, then She Loves Me in November at the Paramount, and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever in December! We invite you to get involved, including upcoming auditions for Alexander in January.
Theatre Bristol’s 53rd Season kicks off with a special encore collaboration between Theatre Bristol and River’s Way directed and written by Dottie Havlik. River’s Way Does Shakespeare will be February 17, with two performances, 10:30 am and 5:30 pm. Please watch for reservation information for this show that played to standing ovations and sold-out last year!
It will be a good day for us when the spring musical production of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day returns to the Theatre Bristol stage after many years. It will be directed by Steve Davis (music director of ANNIE last year) and will include school shows and public performances.
Alexander auditions will be Saturday, January 13 at 10:30 am, Sunday the 14th at 2:30 pm, and Monday the 15th at 6:30 pm at Theatre Bristol, 512 State Street, Bristol, TN. Callbacks will be January 18th. Rehearsals begin January 21 at 2:30 pm. Public performances are March 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, and 25. Oh you pretty Chitty Bang Bang, We love you! In June, Theatre Bristol will present the musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang directed by Kenn Naegele (Director of ANNIE) at the Paramount Center for the Arts. Auditions for Chitty will be March 10, 17, 18, and 19 at Theatre Bristol, 512 State Street, Bristol, TN. Rehearsals will begin on April 22. Performances will be June 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, and July 1. A whimsical summer camp featuring acting, singing, dancing, as well as costuming, makeup, set design, and the tech involved in live stage performance is planned July 9-13 for students who are rising second graders through eighth graders, with online registration available soon.
Soon after organizing this summer camp, Theatre Bristol’s own Youth Service Board will present Tartuffe with literary direction by Glenn Patterson, July 27-29 at the Theatre Bristol ARTspace.
It’s no lie that Pinocchio will be taking the stage under the direction of Mary Beth Rainero, with Geppetto, the Blue Fairy, and other classic characters at the Theatre Bristol ARTspace August 24 through September 10. Just in time for Halloween, Theatre Bristol will present a special fundraising production of Blithe Spirit directed by Dottie Havlik over two weekends, October 19-28.
With a holiday love story, Theatre Bristol brings back to the stage the currently popular musical She Loves Me, recently live streamed from the Broadway stage. Directed by Glenn Patterson (director of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast last year, as well as Les Mis and Music Man), She Loves Me will be presented at the Paramount Center for the Arts for two weekends, November 9-18th. Theatre Bristol caps off the year by presenting The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, so that’s what we’ll do! Directed by Steve Baskett, the show will open November 30 and run for three weekends during the holiday season, with both public and school performances. Auditions will be October 6, 7, 8, and 9 for this show, with details following on the website.

Those interested in being a part of the wonderful experience of live performance by bringing it to life over several weeks and working backstage as part of the production team and stage crew are welcome to come to any of the audition dates and discuss their interest and skill. This invitation includes those interested in orchestra, costuming, set design and construction, lighting, sound, stage management, props, publicity, and many other roles. Interested individuals can also email [email protected]. All roles are volunteer, as there is no paid staff. No experience is necessary for crew work, though welcome.
Year-end contributions to Theatre Bristol may be made to support its mission to offer skills and opportunities to children that increase their self confidence, as well as to provide an outlet for live performance by community members for audiences throughout the region. The vision is that all children experience the unparalleled benefits of live performance and that no child be turned away from opportunities for learning, whether through workshops or attending a show. Founded in 1965, Theatre Bristol is the oldest continually running children’s theatre in northeast Tennessee. Its Main Stage season consists of up to five productions. Some of its performances take place in the ARTspace, a multi-purpose, black box theatre which seats up to 120, and others at the Paramount Center for the Arts. Theatre Bristol is a volunteer-operated organization and we invite you to get involved.
