No text has spoken of exile and displacement more compellingly than Psalm 137. For many centuries, this short poem has been a cultural touchstone for music and religion across the world. Dr. David Stowe, professor of English and religious studies at Michigan State University, will discuss his book “Song of Exile: The Enduring Mystery of Psalm 137.” Stowe’s lecture, titled “Babylon Revisited: History, Memory and Forgetting in Psalm 137,” is part of the Milligan Honors Program’s fall colloquium. This interdisciplinary talk will demonstrate the Psalm’s enduring place in popular culture. The event is free and open to the public.
