Washington County Digitization Day
The Heritage Alliance is on a search for missing pieces of Washington County’s history, and you can help! The archives of the Jonesborough/Washington County History Museum contain a photographic history of the area. The pictures tell stories of businesses, families, and farms, but they do not tell every story, and there are gaps in the photographic record. What did Washington County look like in the 1940s and 1950s? What is the story of laborers, small business owners, homemakers, and sharecroppers? What is the story of the African American community, the Hispanic community, the religious communities, the service organizations, and the social clubs? Do you have a photo that helps illustrate any of these stories?
If you have historic photos and/or negatives of Washington County, TN, the Heritage Alliance will be scanning photographs and negatives as part of our ongoing digitization project. Please bring your images and a flash drive to the Jonesborough/Washington County History Museum in the Jonesborough Visitor’s Center on May 18, 2019 from 11:00am to 3:00pm. We will scan and return the original to you along with a digital copy. We will also keep a digital copy for our archive. Help us preserve the history of our region for future generations. Help us fill the gaps in the story and make sure every voice is heard.
The Heritage Alliance is dedicated to the preservation of the architectural, historical, and cultural heritage of our region and to providing educational experiences related to history and heritage for a wide range of audiences.
