Meet Carter County Festival set for Aug. 24

The Meet Carter County Festival of the Meet the Mountains celebration will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24, in two different parts of Carter County.

The festival is a joint venture with Meet the Mountains and Go Betsy.

The festival begins at 10 a.m. with free trout fishing for children in Roan Mountain. The event will be held at the Roan Mountain Community Park at the intersection of U.S. Highway 19E and Tenn. Highway 143. The event is for children from 2-12 years old and a fishing license is not required. Anglers over the age of 12 will need license and stamps.

The event is sponsored by the Carter County Hunting and Fishing Association, along with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The event will highlight the new Trout Unlimited Fishing Trail in Roan Mountain.

Also starting at 10 a.m. at the Covered Bridge in Elizabethton will be the other events of the Meet Carter County Festival. Over 40 booths will be set up featuring some of the finest artisans in the area. Local community services will be on hand to answer any questions on how they help local citizens. There will also be booths for first responders and a place to register to vote.

Foods trucks will be present including Freddy’s Steak Burgers, DODOs BBQ, Gamblers Concessions and others. Prices are very reasonable, in line with fast food prices.

Booths will include the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency; Tennessee Highway Patrol; Cabelas; Wahoos Kayaking, which will be under the bridge; and “A Walk in Their Boots” military exhibit.

Music will be on tap for most of the day. Bring your lounge chair and listen to contemporary, indy, bluegrass, country and Southern rock. The lineup includes Tim Nave at 12:30 p.m., Tony Vines at 1:45,Julie Williams at 4:30, Boozy Creek Grass (a nine-person bluegrass band) at 5:30, JP Mathes and Fiddling Leona at 6:30, and the headliner, Tennessee Champagne, at 7:30.

The Carter County Car Club will be downtown with its Saturday Night Car Show from 5-9 p.m. and the festivities will end with an outdoor movie sponsored by Elizabethton Park and Recreation Department. The movie will start at the conclusion of the music. For information, visit www.gobetsy.com.
