New food truck brings Middle Eastern food to Johnson City

If you’ve been out to the Farmer’s Market recently or gotten some new tires, you may have caught a glimpse of or tried the food of Johnson City’s newest Food Truck, The Blue Sphinx.

Serving up an array of Middle Eastern food, the truck has a variety of food options from a sampler of various meats to the Gyros, appetizers, hummus, salads and baklava.

The two owners are Hany Baeda and Islam Muhammed and both moved to the U.S. from Egypt. Baeda is from Alexandria, and Muhammed is from Cairo. It has only been about three weeks since they bought the truck and drove it back to the Tri-Cities to start their business.

Muhammad, 29, moved here six months ago to go to school for engineering. He finished school in Cairo but does not have a license to work here and started the food truck here to save money while he goes to school. He wants to use engineering to design cars.

Currently, the food truck serves up Baeda and Muhammed’s dishes with their Egyptian flare at the Discount Tire at 9085, 3006 W Market St. in Johnson City, and at the Farmers Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Until the food truck finds its rhythm, the location can be found online on Facebook or on Instagram @bluesphinx69.
