Sycamore Shoals Park plans Christmas Open House next weekend

Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park is planning a festive, old fashioned time to celebrate Christmas.

The celebration will feature period carolers, Christmas stories, English country dancing, and the Watauga Valley Art League’s Annual Winterfest Art Show. The event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be a special project the whole family can participate in and Santa Claus will also make an appearance.

There will also be a chance to do some Christmas shopping for very unique bu local items at the park’s new gift shop or with the vendors that will be set up for the day.

The schedule for Dec. 14 is as follows:

9 a.m.: Park visitor’s center opens.

10 a.m.: Open house begins.

10-10:30 a.m.: “A Christmas Story,” with C. Keith Young.

10:30-11 a.m.: Period carolers.

11-11:30 a.m.: English country dancers.

11:30 to noon: Ornament making.

1-1:30 p.m.: Period carolers.

1:30-2 p.m.: English country dancers.

2-2:30 p.m.: Santa.

2:30-3 p.m.: Ornament making.

3 p.m.: Open house closes.

4 p.m.: Park visitor’s center closes.
